What collapsible actually means here

An empty Groove Crate folds down to 14.5 by 14.5 by 4 inches, from 14.125 inches tall when it is open. Three folded crates take about the same vertical space as one crate in use. They slide under a bed, behind a shelf or into the back of a closet.

There is no assembly step in either direction. The crate unfolds ready to fill and folds again when you empty it.

Why it is worth having

You can buy ahead of the collection

With fixed storage, buying capacity you do not need yet means surrendering floor space to an empty shelf. With crates that fold, the spare ones stay flat until the records arrive.

Moving stops being a packing job

Records that already live in crates travel in those crates. Nothing gets boxed, nothing gets unpacked at the other end, and the crates that are not needed at the new place fold away. If you rent and move every couple of years, this is the difference that matters most.

Storage that goes away

Sold part of the collection, moved records to a shelf, or just want the corner back? Fold the crate. A shelving unit you have outgrown or under-filled is still a shelving unit taking up a wall.

Where a folding crate is not the answer

If you want your storage to read as furniture, a purpose-built cabinet or shelving unit will look more like it. And a collection that never moves and never grows does not need the flexibility. Collapsibility earns its place when your space, your collection size, or your address is likely to change.
